UYUNI TOUR - BOLIVIA

The town of Uyuni is located in the heart of the immense plateau in southern Bolivia. A cold, desolate, hostile and at the same time magical place with breathtaking landscapes. For years it was important due to the silver trade obtained in the famous Pulacayo mine, but the exploitation was exhausted. Then the whole region was left dead and isolated. It was not until the 1970s that the tourism industry began to exploit one of the most fascinating wonders in the world: the Uyuni salt flat. Currently there are tours that allow you to enjoy this rugged and wild nature such as the well-known Uyuni Tour. In an area of ​​approximately 22,000 square km formed by the Uyuni, Coipasa and Empexa salt flats, the largest amount of salt in the world is concentrated. A plain of singular beauty where nature manifests itself in a peculiar way in the form of volcanoes, geysers, capricious rocks sculpted with the wisdom of time, lagoons with colored waters and fauna adapted to scenarios that sometimes seem lunar. In the Uyuni salt flat there are several islands, highlighting among all of them the "Fisherman´s Island" with calcareous rock formations, remains of corals and seashells.

The population of cactus up to 7 meters high stands out. From the top of the island you can admire the grandeur of the salt flat. Of great biological interest are the Red Lagoon and Green Lagoon where it is possible to admire the elegance of the James flamingo, the vicuñas, the suri or Andean ostrich, the vizcacha, the guanaco and the chinchilla. Due to the presence of volcanoes such as Licancabur, Juriques or Sairecabur, there is abundant geothermal activity with the appearance of geysers such as Tatio whose vapors reach 200ºC.
